Alexander Gilman
Alexander Gilman is a distinguished violinist, educator, and the Founder and Artistic Director of the LGT Young Soloists. Since 2019, he has been teaching at the Royal College of Music.
Under his leadership, the LGT Young Soloists, comprised of exceptionally talented musicians aged 13 to 25, has become the world’s most active and touring youth orchestra, renowned for their performances across major concert halls and festivals globally.
As a dedicated professor, Gilman’s students frequently win competitions and secure top positions. Some of his notable students include award-winning violinists such as Esther Yoo, David Nebel, Jane Hyeonjin Cho, and many others. In addition to his role at the Royal College of Music, Alexander also teaches at Kalaidos University in Switzerland and has previously held teaching positions at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) as assistant to his former professor Zakhar Bron and at the Amadeus Music Academy in Vienna.
Alexander has performed with esteemed conductors, including Neeme Järvi, David Zinman, Bernard Haitink, Michael Sanderling, Dan Ettinger, Mario Venzago, and Perry So. He is a frequent guest at international festivals, both as a soloist and educator, and his concerts have been broadcast by numerous prestigious radio and television stations, including Bavarian Radio, WQXR New York, Rai Italia, and NHK Japan.
Alexander holds several international awards, including the WestLB Music Competition in 2006, which granted him the use of the Stradivari “Ex-Croall” from 1684. He is a Thomastik-Infeld Artist and currently performs on a violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini.
Born in Bamberg, Alexander began his musical journey at age six with his father Jakob Gilman and later studied under renowned professors such as Dorothy DeLay and Zakhar Bron.
