The Marketing & Communications team is looking for a proactive, creative, experienced Communications Officer to raise the Royal College of Music’s profile and promote our wide-ranging initiatives to a global audience. The Communications Officer will produce web news stories showcasing the breadth of College activity as well as key internal communications for staff and students, presenting complex information in a clear way, whether through an email, a newsletter or a video. 

Reporting to the Director of Communications the role will support the management of the RCM’s public relations activities and the production of communications related media and be expected to explore new ways of promoting the dynamic world of our campus and musicians.  
We seek someone who is passionate about our purpose and values and can demonstrate their experience delivering high-quality, multi-channel campaigns – which includes social media and briefing audio-visual content as appropriate. Proven experience of working in a similar communications role, in a media handling environment, a creative HE environment or in the wider creative and cultural industries is welcome. A talented writer, you will be sensitive to different audiences and tailor your approach when communicating with students, staff or alumni. 

You will build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels, be able to plan a strong communications calendar of activities and have experience of crisis communications.  The successful candidate will need to be organised and used to managing a busy workload, working on several different campaigns simultaneously. You will possess impeccable writing and editorial skills, with the ability to take complex information and summarise it for a range of different audiences.  You will have key media contacts and a good awareness of the Higher Education landscape. High-level IT/digital media skills, including use and development of audio-visual equipment and software; social media platforms; and desktop publishing packages is also welcome.
