Dr Jonathan Cole, Head of Composition

Dr Jonathan Cole appointed Head of Composition

Tuesday 21 December 2021

The Royal College of Music announces the appointment of Dr Jonathan Cole as Head of Composition.

Jonathan has been teaching composition at the College since 2005 and has been Area Leader in the Masters composition programme since 2007. Prior to this he taught at Kings College, London and the Purcell School. Throughout this time, he has continued to compose a notable series of personal works and has been described as ‘one of the most strikingly original and provocative voices in British contemporary music.’

Jonathan will oversee the Faculty of over eighty students, covering composition and composition for screen, and ranging through Undergraduate to Doctoral programmes, beginning in the Summer Term in 2022.

Dr Cole comments: ‘I'm extremely excited to have been offered this post and to be working with such a distinguished faculty. What is immediately obvious to anyone visiting the RCM is how much we value the individuality of our talented composers, and at this crucial time within new music this is something to celebrate and encourage.’
