Academic support and learning resources highly rated as National Student Survey (NSS) 2023 results revealed

The Royal College of Music is one of the most highly rated conservatoires in the UK reflecting a very positive student experience and scoring above sector average results in 6 of the 7 categories.

The RCM scored particularly highly in areas related to teaching quality, academic support and learning facilities as well as the student voice.

Inspirational teachers

94% of students who responded to the survey rated RCM teachers positively for explaining course content and agreed that teaching staff made the subject engaging. 

Sector-leading academic support

At 92%, and highlighting the RCM’s focus on the student experience, the RCM leads music conservatoires in terms of academic support. 95% of students recognised that staff have swiftly responded to the needs of students, making themselves available and being easily contactable.

Top ranking for RCM Library

Securing its reputation as a renowned resource facility, the RCM Library achieved a sector-leading result with a score of over 95% confirming the wealth of resource material, online services and learning spaces crucial to students’ learning.

Investing in the student experience

The work of the RCM Students’ Union (SU) also delivered an impressive result with 82% of respondents agreeing that the SU represents students’ academic interests well, and 86% confirming that student wellbeing support services were accessible thanks to good communication.

Additionally, a very strong result for learning resources, especially our sector leading library, reflects our continued efforts to prioritise and invest in the student experience.  I’d also like to thank the SU President, Tymon Zgorzelski, and his committee for ensuring the student voice is at the heart of the institution and I’m delighted to see this work reflected in such a high score for the RCM.'

The NSS is an annual survey of final year undergraduates studying in the UK and gathers students’ opinions on the quality of their courses and student experiences.

The RCM is ranked top global institution for performing arts in the prestigious QS World University Rankings (2023 & 2022).
