Berenice Beverley Zammit

Berenice Beverley Zammit is a Performance Consultant and Coach, researcher, lecturer and professional violinist. She lectures in Performance Psychology, Health and Wellbeing, and Research Methods. Her PhD investigates pre-performance routines and strategies adopted by professional musicians to enhance performance. Her research interests encompass pre-performance routines, psychological skills and physical activity, and the implications these carry on musicians’ performance, general health and wellbeing.

Berenice's doctoral research findings have been presented at the International Symposium for Performance Science (ISPS) 2023, Warsaw; ISPS 2021, Montreal; KVNM/RMA Postgraduate Symposium 2021, Amsterdam; SMI/ICTM-IE Postgraduate Conference 2021, Limerick; ISPS 2019, Melbourne; ISPS 2017, Reykjavik.

Berenice is an RCM Doctoral Bursary and Leverhulme Postgraduate Award holder. She is also supported by the Robert McFadzean Whyte Award and the Charles Richard Sisson Scholarship. In 2012 Berenice was awarded a distinction for her MSc in Performance Science (RCM), generously supported by the Malta Arts Scheme. Her research investigated physical exercise, injury and wellbeing in professional orchestral musicians.

Berenice graduated in Violin Performance from Siena, Italy, after winning a scholarship by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura. During this time, Berenice furthered her studies in both violin and viola with Marco Fornaciari and participated in various masterclasses with internationally renowned violinists such as Salvatore Accardo and Cristiano Rossi. Her solo debut came at thirteen years of age with Vivaldi’s Four Seasons at Malta’s international Manoel Theatre. Berenice performs regularly in both chamber and orchestral settings, and in particular with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a performance consultant Berenice works with various performing and non-performing artists on mental and physical strategies to optimize performance. Berenice also works with performing arts institutions such as the European Union Youth Orchestra on areas relating to general health and wellbeing, and performance anxiety.

Berenice is a sports enthusiast and is passionate about collaborating with individuals across performance domains to support research and artistic innovation.
