Internationally acclaimed Armenian cellist Alexander Chaushian has performed extensively around the world as a distinguished soloist, celebrated for his refined artistry and his dedication to bringing the music of his homeland to audiences globally. His performances have received widespread praise; BBC Classical Music and Klassik Magazine noted his admirable commitment to carrying Armenian music to the international stage.
Alexander’s notable collaborations include performances with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Philharmonia, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, The London Mozart Players, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, The Boston Pops, Oxford Philharmonic and the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra. He has graced eminent stages such as London’s Southbank Centre, Wigmore Hall, Sala Verdi in Milan, the Konzerthaus in Vienna, Suntory Hall in Japan, Carnegie Hall in New York, and Symphony Hall in Boston.
A dedicated festival performer, Alexander appears regularly at major festivals worldwide. He is also the Artistic Director of the International Pharos Chamber Music Festival in Cyprus , the Yerevan Music Festival in Armenia and Classic Cello Competition.
After beginning his studies in Armenia, Alexander continued his education at the renowned Menuhin School and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, before pursuing advanced studies at Hochschule Berlin. He is a laureate of numerous international competitions, including the 12th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the ARD International Music Competition in Germany. As an alumnus of Young Concert Artists in New York, he toured extensively across the United States. He is also the Artistic Director of the Classic Cello International Competition.
Throughout his career, Alexander has collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Yehudi Menuhin, Julia Fischer, Yuri Bashmet, Yuja Wang, Diemut Poppen, and Emmanuel Pahud.
Alexander’s recordings include several highly acclaimed CDs for the BIS label, often featuring collaborations with Yevgeny Sudbin. In 2023, his concerto recording with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra received rave reviews and was awarded ‘Album of the Week’ by The Independent.
