Visitors to the museum can see the plectrum in person, where it is displayed alongside Cobain’s rare, left-handed Martin D-18E guitar and his iconic olive-green mohair cardigan, both used during the legendary MTV Unplugged performance.

The Kurt Cobain Unplugged exhibition explores Nirvana’s musical legacy and traces the remarkable journey of the guitar, which became the most expensive guitar ever sold at auction in 2020 when it was bought for over $6 million by Australian entrepreneur Peter Freedman AM, who has generously loaned the guitar for this exhibition.

Kurt Cobain Unplugged runs until 18 November 2025.
