RCMJD entrance auditions will be conducted as a two-stage process for everyone in 2026.
First round auditions will be via online video/portfolio submission; second round auditions for relevant candidates will be held in person at the RCM (South Kensington).
Should there be any additional requirements to those listed below we will advise you of these once we have received your application and/or reviewed your submitted online materials.
Audition Requirements
For the first round, instrumental/vocal candidates will need to submit video recordings of their performances; composers will need to submit a portfolio of recent works. First round audition panels will convene digitally, reviewing the video recordings or composition portfolios submitted from January onwards, so early submission is encouraged. All materials will need to be submitted by the end of Friday 6 March 2026 at the latest.
Second round auditions (for candidates who are selected after the first round online process) will be held in person. We aim to let candidates know the outcome of the first round auditions process by mid-March.
For more detailed information about application and online submission processes please ensure that you have read the ‘auditions information for applicants’ and ‘special audition requirements’ documents below.
After your Junior Department audition
Results will be sent directly to parents/guardians by email as soon as possible after the audition period – please see our ‘auditions information for applicants’ document for more details about specific dates.
If you are offered a place, you will have a little time to decide whether you wish to accept it. The date by which you will be expected to sign your agreement to our Regulations and Policies will be stated on your offer letter.
If you decide to accept you will need to decide (by the acceptance deadline) on which instrument(s) you wish to have individual tuition, and whether you require standard length or extended lessons (for which there is an extra cost). You must familiarise yourself with what the RCMJD offers and what is expected of students and parents before accepting your place; you will be asked to sign your agreement to our Regulations and Code of Conduct.
