Ruth Molins

Ruth started playing the trombone at the age of nine and studied at the Junior Department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Ruth read music at the University of York where she achieved 1st class honours and studied trombone with Robert Burtenshaw. Ruth was awarded a scholarship for postgraduate study at the Royal Academy of Music, under the tutelage of Dudley Bright and Denis Wick. During her time at the Academy Ruth was a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester. Ruth gained the LRAM teaching diploma, the postgraduate diploma in trombone with distinction, the prestigious DipRAM for outstanding performance and was awarded the Vice Principal’s Award.
Ruth enjoys a varied career as a busy freelance trombonist and works regularly with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Orchestra of the English National Opera, City of London Sinfonia, London Chamber Orchestra, London Mozart Players and London Sinfonietta. Ruth is passionate about the power of live music to communicate with a wider audience and frequently takes part in education and participation projects in a variety of settings with the London Symphony Orchestra’s Discovery Department and the City of London Sinfonia.
Ruth is an experienced and dedicated trombone teacher and chooses to divide her time equally between performing work and teaching. Alongside her role at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, Ruth also enjoys working with talented young musicians at the Purcell School. Many of Ruth’s students have gained places in national youth ensembles and have gone on to secure scholarships at the leading conservatoires for undergraduate study. In addition to her roles within specialist education, Ruth teaches primary and secondary aged trombonists at Haberdashers’ Girls’ School in Hertfordshire and at North London Collegiate School.
