Visit Days in 2023-24
RCMJD visit days are an opportunity to see the RCM building in-person and to meet the RCMJD team.
Please note that attendance at a visit day is not compulsory before applying to the Junior Department - later opportunities will be provided for successful auditionees to visit the department before our offer acceptance deadline. Our visit days have limited capacity and we are only able to offer places to those who are eligible to apply for RCMJD in the 2023-24 academic year.
To apply to be considered for a place on one of our visit days, you must click the link below to submit your contact details. Once visit day dates have been set, you will receive an email inviting you to submit an application form to attend.
Advance booking
Advance booking is essential as space is limited. Places are allocated on the basis of eligibility to apply for RCMJD in the 2023-24 academic year. If you would like to apply to be considered for a place on one of our visit days, you must complete the 'submit contact details' form above.
Parents
Due to restrictions on visitor numbers, only one parent/guardian will be able to accompany the visiting student.
Instruments
Instruments are not needed on a visit day. This is an observational day and we regret that we cannot involve you in any practical music-making activities that will require an instrument. You'll have to wait until audition to show us how brilliant you are!
Refreshments
Refreshments, if required, can be purchased in our canteen.
About your application to attend our Visit Day
Though we can't acknowledge receipt of your application, we will aim to let you know whether we can accommodate you as soon as we can.
Cancelling attendance at our Visit Day
If having been booked on a visit day you find you are no longer able to attend, please do let us know as soon as possible so that we can offer the place to someone on the waiting list.
Getting to the RCM
The Royal College of Music is easy to reach on foot from notable locations in the Kensington area and is well connected to public transport. Limited parking is available for those travelling by car.

All local stations are in TfL fare zone 1.
London Underground
The closest station is South Kensington (Circle, District and Piccadilly lines), which is a 10–15 minute walk from the RCM.
Gloucester Road (Circle, District and Piccadilly lines) is a 15 minute walk from the RCM. High Street Kensington station (Circle and District lines) is a 20 minute walk or 10 minutes by bus.
Night Tube services run on the Piccadilly line on Friday and Saturday evenings, providing Underground connections from South Kensington and Gloucester Road throughout the night.
National Rail
The closest mainline stations are London Paddington and London Victoria. The RCM can be reached from any London terminal by Underground, bus or taxi.
London Buses
Bus number 360 stops directly outside the RCM on Prince Consort Road.
Buses 9, 23, 52 and 452 pass the Royal Albert Hall.
The number 70 travels along Queen's Gate.
Many other services run to South Kensington, Kensington High Street and Knightsbridge from surrounding areas.
A comprehensive system of night buses operates between Central London and the rest of the city. The N9 passes the Royal Albert Hall and connects with other major routes at Trafalgar Square.
Coaches
Scheduled coach services run to destinations nationwide from Victoria Coach Station.
A Santander Cycles docking station is located on Prince Consort Road, adjacent to the RCM. There are several alternative docking stations nearby.
There are also a limited number of facilities for securing private bicycles on Prince Consort Road and in the surrounding area.
There is metered parking on Prince Consort Road and the surrounding area. It costs £3.70 per hour for a maximum of four hours and is free after 6.30pm and on Sundays.
Other car parks and street parking are available in the South Kensington area, but spaces are often limited. Please check availability and restrictions before you travel.
There are designated motorbike bays in the area surrounding the Royal Albert Hall.
Disabled parking bays
There are a limited number of disabled parking bays managed by Westminster Borough Council on Prince Consort Road and in the area around the Royal Albert Hall, which are within 175 metres ofthe RCM. In addition, there are spaces managed by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea on Exhibition Road, which are within 600 metres of the RCM.
