Mary-Kate Gill
Mary-Kate was brought up in the North West, where her musical studies began at the Royal Northern College of Music Junior Department as a joint first study pianist and violinist, studying with Martin Roscoe and Peter Manning. She went on to study the piano with Christopher Elton in London, before reading music at Jesus College, Oxford. Whilst at Oxford, Mary-Kate performed regularly as a soloist on both piano and violin. Mary-Kate then completed the Advanced Solo Studies course (violin) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with Yfrah Neaman. After working as a freelance violinist and piano accompanist, Mary-Kate undertook a PGCE at the Institute of Education (University of London) and embarked on a career in music education. Mary-Kate ran music departments in various North London schools before joining the Purcell School in 2012, where she was Head of Academic Music from 2013 until 2022. Mary-Kate joined the Musicianship Department at RCMJD in 2022 and also teaches at Henrietta Barnett School.
