The MMusEd is an advanced training degree that expands your musical training while providing the knowledge and experience needed to lead and innovate in a diverse range of educational environments.
The MMusEd program combines one-to-one lessons, lectures, practical workshops, specialist faculty seminars, and online learning to equip students with a deep understanding of teaching techniques across various music education settings, grounded in cutting-edge research in international music education and performance science.
Students receive one-to-one instrumental, vocal, or composition lessons with RCM professors, tailored to their aspirations as teaching musicians, with the option to study a second or related instrument.
The program adopts a practice-led, professional approach, with central emphasis on placements through RCM’s leading music education partners, offering hands-on experience in innovative and progressive music education environments.

You will be taught by a team of world-class professors, many of whom hold principal positions in major ensembles and some of whom are the biggest names in their field. Contextual studies are taught by a range of academics, including those undertaking active research, who are regarded as experts in their disciplines. You may also be taught by external specialists and have the chance to learn with visiting artists.

Creative Careers Centre services
RCM Accelerate supports graduating RCM students to kick-start or evolve a creative project, social enterprise, or business idea.
Concert opportunities to perform at a variety of venues, including concert halls, churches, abbeys, museums, galleries and community settings.
Creative Careers Centre services
Professional Engagement Service allows organisations and members of the public to hire RCM musicians to perform at events.
RCM Teaching Service matches members of the public in London and across the globe with student-tutors.
Suitability for this course is assessed by interview and practical audition.
Applicants for the intensive course must be able to demonstrate at audition/interview that their existing performance and academic skills will enable them to manage the demands of the course.
In addition, applicants require an undergraduate degree or equivalent international qualification, usually in music. You do not have to provide evidence of your qualifications at the point of application. If your audition is successful, you will be asked to send these to our Admissions team as a condition of your offer.
All applicants must pass an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check before commencing the course, which is a compulsory requirement for courses where trainees may be placed in a position of trust working with children and/or vulnerable adults. English language requirements
All applicants must be able to demonstrate that their level of English language ability meets the Royal College of Music’s minimum requirements in order for their application to be accepted.
If you require a visa to study at the RCM, you must meet the English language requirements before the RCM is permitted to sponsor your visa application.

The main application deadline for 2025 entry was 2 October 2024 but we are currently accepting late portfolio submissions. Applications for 2026 entry will open in July 2025.
All applicants (including international applicants) should apply online through the UCAS Conservatoires admissions service, where you can track your application, find out when your audition is and get the results of your audition all on UCAS Conservatoires.
Using UCAS Conservatoires incurs a £28.50 application fee. This is in addition to our assessment fees. You cannot use another system and both the application and assessment fees are paid online through UCAS Conservatoires.
