Georgia Dawson

Georgia Dawson (she/her) is a Centre for Performance Science PhD student, supported by a LAHP studentship and supervised by Professor Rosie Perkins, Dr Tania Lisboa and and Dr Anna Detari. Georgia’s research aims to shed light on the wellbeing of autistic students within UK music conservatoires, investigating potential difficulties encountered by such students and analysing the environment as an effector of the autistic student experience. Prior to her PhD she has been research assistant to Dr Anna Detari for an ongoing ThinkTank project centering the voices of neurodivergent personnel in the music sector.

Georgia’s prior academic study was undertaken at King’s College London with her dissertation investigating topics of equality and inclusion in community music education, supervised by Dr Katherine Schofield. She has been an invited speaker at both The ProMiMic (Meaningful Music in Health Care) Symposium in The Hague and the 2020 City University EDI in Music HE conference. Her articles on musicians’ wellbeing can be read on the website thingsmusiciansdonttalkabout.com

Georgia undertook her undergraduate degree at the Royal College of Music as a French Horn player and she enjoys a diverse performance schedule in addition to her research work. Highlights include performing for Chaka Kahn at the Royal Festival Hall, multiple performances with the London Musical Theatre Orchestra at the London Palladium, opening the London Marathon Start line in both 2023 and 2024 with Brixton Chamber Orchestra and recording for the Bowel Babe fund at Abbey Road Studios. As a specialist brass teacher and community music facilitator Georgia has worked with charitable companies and schools in both the private and state sector across London and the East of England. This notably includes Soundcastle, Britten Pears Arts and MISST as well as extensive experience as a SEND educator.
