If you are a US citizen or eligible non-US citizen and have firmly accepted an unconditional offer to commence study on an eligible program at RCM, you may be able to receive US Federal Student Aid from the US Department of Education.
Changes to US Loans for 2026/27 for new students
US Government has made significant changes to the loans available through the federal loan scheme which will come into effect from the beginning of the 2026/27 academic year. These changes affect students who are beginning a new course of study at the RCM in September 2026.
Most significantly, the Graduate PLUS loan is being discontinued for borrowers beginning a new course in September 2026. Postgraduate students will be able to borrow up to $20,500 each year via the Stafford loans programme.
Parent PLUS loans for new undergraduate students beginning courses in September 2026 will be capped at $20,000 per year, with a lifetime limit of $65,000 per dependent child.
Changes to US Loans for 2026/27 for continuing students
Students continuing with the same programme of study from 2025/26 to 2026/27 are subject to transitional arrangements.
Students in receipt of loans authorised before 1st July 2026 may continue to access loans under the previous regulations, so long as they remain on the same course and are continuing without interruption from 2025/26 to 2026/27. Any periods of interruption may make them ineligible to continue their loans under the old regulations.
The cap on Parent PLUS loans cap mentioned above will not be applied to students continuing with an undergraduate course from 2025/26 into 2026/27. Please check the Federal Student Aid webpage for the most recent information.
Students progressing from a course ending in July 2026 to a new course beginning in September 2026 will be subject to the new regulations.
This information is provided in good faith but is subject to any further announcements from the US Education department. Please check the Federal Student Aid webpage for the most recent information.
