Michelle Taylor-Cohen
Michelle is a freelance violinist and violist with over 25 years experience as an orchestral, chamber and session musician, teacher, and chamber music coach.
She is the arranger-in-association with Estilo String Quartet who have commissioned hundreds of her arrangements, and released three albums.
In 2024 she founded MTC Collective, a 16-piece string orchestra. Their debut EP, Cover Stories, features reimagined versions of familiar songs, arranged and produced by Michelle.
She has worked with Decca (New York) and is currently part of the arranging pool at Decca Classical. She has recently collaborated with Peter Mallinson (BBCSO), who has commissioned several arrangements featuring viola, notably on the Brief Encounters album (Meridian Records, 2024).
Michelle has developed several music education projects which enable young musicians to play along with professional players . Her specially-adapted educational arrangements of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition have been used by BBCCO, Telemark Orchestra and Cohen Ensemble.
As well as working at JD, she is violin coach for South London Youth Orchestra and Enfield Young Symphony Orchestra.
When she isn't being a musician, Michelle can usually be found knitting and listening to a really grisly true crime podcast.
