Laura Rickard
Violinist Laura Rickard is an internationally active chamber musician and soloist, performing across Europe, North America and Asia. She is a member of the Mila Piano Trio and Goethe String Quartet, and has performed at major venues including Wigmore Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, and the Concertgebouw amonst others. She has appeared as a soloist with orchestras across the UK and internationally, and her performances are regularly broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM and NBC.
Laura is a regular guest at leading international chamber music festivals, and is a passionate advocate for contemporary music; she has commissioned and premiered works by composers including Martin Butler, Cydonie Banting, Eleanor Alberga and Robert Peate.
Laura is the founder and Artistic Director of the Romsey Chamber Music Festival, established in 2018. The festival has grown into an ambitious annual programme bringing internationally renowned artists to Hampshire, alongside an extensive education programme of school projects, side-by-side performances, masterclasses and a Young Artists Programme. Its activities have reached more than 3,000 children across Hampshire and provide opportunities for emerging musicians to work alongside leading international artists.
Laura teaches violin and chamber music at the Royal Academy of Music, King’s College London, and the Royal College of Music Junior Department where she directs the Chamber Orchestra. She has also given masterclasses and coaching internationally, including at the University of Cambridge, International Music Academy in Liechtenstein National Youth String Orchestra and Cadenza International Summer School. Laura studied at St John’s College, Cambridge, and the Royal Academy of Music, where her teachers included Erich Gruenberg, Remus Azoitei and Alex Redington. She received the DipRAM for an outstanding final recital and was subsequently appointed Meaker Fellow in Violin. She was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 2022.
