Andy studied the trombone at Chetham’s School of Music and at the Royal Academy of Music learning with Rob Burtenshaw, Chris Houlding, Kevin Price, Phil Goodwin, Dudley Bright, Denis Wick and Ian Bousfield.  Whilst studying he won numerous prizes including the Drummond Sharp Brass Prize (RAM) and the Larry Wiehe Competition (International Trombone Association).  Andy also had the opportunity to perform as a soloist performing Berio’s ‘Sequenza V’ for the Southbank festival “Ommagio”, David’s ‘Concertino’ with the RAM Concert Orchestra and the solo part from Berlioz’s ‘Grande Symphony Funebre et Triumphal’ with RAM:GSMD wind band.  He is a former Principal Trombone of NYO and EUYO.

Andy is Principal Trombone with English National Ballet Philharmonic and Trombonist with Riot Ensemble.  He regularly performs with many of the UK's Symphony, Opera and Ballet orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Royal Opera House, Britten Sinfonia and BBC NOW among others.  He has deputised in West End shows such as the Lion King and War Horse, and has recorded for video games, tv and films.

Alongside performing, Andy is passionate about education and prior to joining RCMJD he was Trombone Teacher at Junior Trinity from 2020. Previous pupils have gained places at NYO and gone on to secure scholarships at the UK’s leading conservatoires. Andy has worked for a number of education projects for City of London Sinfonia and Britten Pears Arts among other organisations. Alongside RCMJD, Andy also teaches at primary and secondary schools including Newland House School, The Mall School & Kingston Grammar.
